Many couples think that therapy means their relationship is doomed or on the brink of failure. While some couples do need help coming to terms with a separation, most couples strengthen and deepen their bond by sharing their vulnerabilities with their partners. I believe that couples benefit greatly from the help of a third party to enhance communication, provide a safe environment to express difficult feelings, and sort out the unconscious wounds from the past that get displaced onto one’s partner.
I work with couples to identify what originally brought them together and how their preconceptions from the past may interfere with seeing and appreciating their partner for who they are. I believe that we import ways of relating from our earliest childhood attachments into our present-day relationships. Because it is in relationships that so much pain can be inflicted, it is also through the mutual love and acceptance of a partner that so much of this pain can be healed. This makes couples therapy such a powerful tool for transformation and growth.
I work with couples at all stages of their relationship dealing with a variety of issues:
- Pre-marital concerns
- Issues around pregnancy, infertility, or adoption
- Parenting
- Financial conflict
- Sexual Problems
- Infidelity
- Contemplating divorce
- Aging
- Marriage counseling, relationship therapy, couples therapy
